Cement tiles are great for floors in so many ways and will no doubt make a great addition to your home or business remodel. Tiling your own floor is definitely something you can achieve, but you need to know how to do it right. Cement floor tiles are handmade artisan products that deliver a look no other material can provide, and it’d be awful to damage your investment by installing them improperly. From the layout to choosing the right grout and sealant, each step is important. In this post, we explain the process of installing a cement tile floor and what you need to look out for when choosing concrete floor tiles.

cement tiles have been around for the past 150 years and have been called numerous names including encaustic cement tile, cement tile, concrete tile, hydraulicos*, cuban tile, and more. whatever their nomenclature, clé offers one of the finest cement tiles on a surface that is at once muted, varied, matte and silky. these tiles come in a myriad of patterns, think: moroccan, black and whites, neutrals, stripes, and more. in addition to our standard eight-by-eight-inch square tiles we offer color blocks of rectangles, hexes, diamonds, triangles, arabesques and scallops. our compelling cement tile patterns and shapes include some of the most sought-after tiles today for both walls and floors, indoors and out.

Leaving those beauties stacked in the corner while Garrett finished drywalling was akin to torture.  Okay, that’s probably a little harsh, but I’m just not a patient person when it comes to finishing a kitchen.  It’s only a hair easier than waiting for your baby to arrive after they’ve been cooking for over 41 weeks (not going to happen this time…right baby?!).
The newly-opened Finn’s Southern Kitchen in Louisville is housed in the former offices of an 1800 era cotton mill. The building was recently converted into Finn’s restaurant while preserving many of its deco features such as the glass blocking, flooring, moldings, entrance features as well as returning the windows to their original size and splendor.

This 8" x 8" Cement Field Tile in Gray/White transform spaces into works of art. Reminiscent of century-old encaustic tiles, cement tiles have been handcrafted by artisans for decades. The designs and colors create a beautiful and durable surface that is more aesthetically appealing than basic cement or drywall, and more durable and eco-friendly than wood or laminate flooring.

Whether you’re looking to add color, pattern, texture, or a one-of-a-kind feature in your home or business, cement tiles can completely change the look and feel of a space and make it your own. If you have a room, like a kitchen, that is boring and lacks personality, cement tiles will instantly add style and visual interest. And the great thing about that is, you don’t need an expensive full renovation to do it. All you may need are concrete tiles from our cement tile shop to transform your space and turn it from blah to wow, with color and pattern.
The best way to add color variation and pattern in a neutral bathroom that you want to keep soft and serene is to upgrade the floors with bright and airy patterned concrete floor tiles. Tiling the floors will make enough of a statement that turns a plain bathroom into an elegant one, without distracting from the calm and spa-like vibe of the rest of the space. We love the Normandy tile in white and soft grey for this application. The swirling traditional pattern offers just enough visual variation and interest, without looking busy. The white and grey keep everything serene and neutral, but add that extra touch a plain bathroom needs to take it from blah to beautiful.
Concrete tiles offer the best of both worlds for the home and business owner who wants nothing short of elegant and functional. If you’re looking for a flooring material that is beautiful, low maintenance, and cost efficient, look no further than the concrete floor tiles from Granada Tile. We offer a wide variety of tile patterns, colors, shapes, and sizes, that are based on modern trends, timeless designs, and historical influences.
If you are looking for commercial tile flooring for high-traffic areas, we carry many outstanding lines of commercial-grade tile for the floor (and wall) that is stylish and durable for business, industrial, corporate and retail projects. We have many large format tiles for open areas, as well as smaller formats for creating warmth, while maintaining durability and functionality.
not typically a fan of shades of green, we decided to begin to collect emerald-colored images onto a pinboard to see if they continued to capture our curiosity. we can’t believe it’s already managed to become one of our favorite pinboards. inspired by these beautiful images we have added green colorways to many of our cement patterns and even our watermark! who knew shades of green would capture us and our clients curiosity in such a big way?
**So glad** you mentioned Villa Lagoon! Lundy (the most gorgeous, both in body and heart), the owner, helped me with our laundry room (now changing room) project eight years ago. I wanted a colorful crazy quilt and Lundy definitely ensured I got what I wanted, including a good mix of black to help ground the pattern(s). I did investigate Popham but back then they were still only in Morocco, not yet in the US with Ann Sacks, and, while lovely, they were (are?) a bit more mod than I wanted (although I do like their Rings) and MUCH more $$$ than Villa Lagoon.
What I loved about working with these cement tiles (besides them being fabulous!) is the size.  They’re each 8”x8”, which made the install go fast.  I did the whole kitchen backsplash in about an hour.  After spending two full days laying the marble herringbone backsplash at Ravenna, I was overjoyed by the simplicity of this project.  The only added difficulty I found with these tiles was aligning the pattern.  It’s not rocket science (I’m looking at you, Jamie), but I did spend a little extra time laying them out.  I started by marking a vertical line at the center of the backsplash and then laid the first row beginning with the middle tile and working outwards.  After laying the center three tiles all the way to the top of the backsplash and checking that each row was level, it was time to cut the edge tiles.
Does that necessarily make it bad? I grilled the tile pro who did beautiful things with subway and hex tiles in our third floor Airbnb bathroom. James Taylor has been tiling for almost 20 years and there were no ifs, and, or buts when it came to his feelings about cement tile. "I don't even know why it was ever made, to be honest with you," he said.

Cement tiles were first produced in the South of France in the 1870s. They are known under various names such as Mission tiles, Cuban tiles, Victorian tiles, and hydraulic tiles. Cement tiles are popular in Mediterranean and Latin style spaces and are generally highly patterned with geometric and floral designs. Cement tiles are formed by hand pouring pigmented cement into decorative molds in order to separate the colors. When the cement has been set, the molds are removed and the tile compressed with 2,000 pounds of pressure. The result is an irresistible work of art to create a beautiful kitchen backsplash. Cement tiles are technically concrete tiles since they include aggregates such as marble dust and a layer of sand for reinforcement.
This series of solid-colored encaustic tiles was created so that there’s always something to perfectly coordinate with any patterned encaustic. Use encaustic sky-blue cement tiles alone to make a monochromatic statement or mix and match with other solids and patterns to design a unique room. Even the solid colors of these wall and floor tiles will have natural variation and interest because they are hand mixed before being poured.
This blog looks fabulous, does not know existed a client recommended to me as I saw the name of our company Brothers Cement Tile Corp. in your post. You did a great job, We are a small factory cement tile handmade in the same way as their birth year 1857. We have our factory in the city of New York and very easy abscess, we have a lot of patterns, where you can choose you want, and be inspired to use the colors you like most
Inspired by the look of a knight’s shield, create a medieval crest pattern all your own with the Nara encaustic tile. The bold geometric design in black, grey and white is tempered by the soft, feminine arabesque shape. Use Nara to create a boldly patterned wall or floor or pair it with our other encaustic arabesques to develop your own individual design.
we strongly believe that good design is evergreen, in that a well-crafted and artfully designed tile will stand the test of time. our desire is to offer enduring quality over trends - to offer substance over style and to focus on the transformative, not the mundane. we strive to show how a european love of tile can be equally embraced stateside and how we can elevate our everyday appreciation of surfaces with a material that can both embellish and protect our homes and architecture.
