For long-term maintenance, it is better to invest in resealing of the tiles when it is required.
Bathrooms: I just installed these tiles from Erin Adams design in my own bathroom and my search for those is what started this whole thing. Most cement tiles will work either on the floor or walls of your bathroom, but check with the manufacturer as some tiles will need to be sealed before they get a lot of foot traffic and water on them. Again, seal them after install and ideally keep sealing every couple years as needed.

I love, love the look, but they are high maintenance. I got white and light gray tiles in the bathrooms, definitely do not recommend white or light colored cement tiles. They stain very easily. The installation is also a challange. Like others said, sealing before grouting (once) and more than three times after is a must. First picture shows tiles after less than a year in use. Second pictures shows freshly installed tiles. My husband never wants this tiles again, and we are already thinking of replacing them in the guest bathroom.
Hardwoods are beautiful and go with all different styles of homes, but are high maintenance and need to be refinished every handful of years. Cement floor tiles don’t ever need to be refinished, and they don’t show scratches, scuffing, and fading like hardwoods. Cement tiles are great for every room in your home, including high-traffic areas, and are practical and cost-efficient for a busy commercial space.

Any chance you’re going to show some in process shots of building your range hood? Yours looks exactly like the shape I want to build. I’ve been promising a range hood in the kitchen for years and I have the fan and liner in the basement now but haven’t added the electrical or decided on the exact design. I love the idea of plaster or tile but keep thinking I should do painted wood because it will be easier.

what colors are suitable for grouting cement tiles? clé always recommends a neutral natural grey (un-pigmented) grout color for all cement tiles. besides being the traditional shade for these historic tiles, the lack of pigment allows for a stain-free installation. another color recommendation is to select the shade that matches closest to the lightest shade in your pattern. CAUTION: many grout manufacturers have begun to pigment their “natural gray” grouts. so be sure your contractor checks with the manufacturer. If there is pigment, your contractor must take care against staining.

Cement tiles are not fired; there is no glaze layer on the surface of the tile. They derive their durability from the combination of finely dehydrated cement and a more coarse sand/cement layer. The pigment layer is hydraulically pressed into the surface and becomes a part of the tile. The tiles are then soaked in a water bath for 24 hours and then set to dry for another seven days at the factory before they ship to our Los Angeles and Mississippi warehouses, where they are stored before shipping to our customers worldwide.
