This series of solid-colored encaustic tiles was created so that there’s always something to perfectly coordinate with any patterned encaustic. Use encaustic white cement tiles alone to make a monochromatic statement or mix and match with other solids and patterns to design a unique room. Even the solid colors of these wall and floor tiles will have natural variation and interest because they are hand mixed before being poured.

The tone of the tiles depends on the aesthetic you want. If you want something rustic, go for dark floors. For that gray toned cement tiles will look great. You can get polished concrete tiles for a smooth finish on the floor and for easy cleaning as well. It is also the better option for commercial purposes. Lighter tones are better if you want a bright home.

in 2009 when artist and designer, deborah osburn began her blog, ‘tile envy’, she did so because no one else was talking about tile at the time. ‘tile envy’ quickly garnered an avid following and when readers started to ask how to source the unique artisan tiles she was featuring, deborah found herself launching an online tile shop in 2012 aptly named clé (pronounced 'clay') tile. selling tiles solely online seemed audacious at a time when tile stores were still deeply rooted in the showroom experience, however, architects, designers and design-savvy customers proved they were happy to have access to a wider array of decorative tiles and the online boutique took off.

The divider is set into the mold. This is what will separate the colors to create the surface of the concrete tile. Each color is poured into its specific section of the divider. Once each color section is filled, the divider is removed and a mixture of fine sand and Portland cement is applied. This is the second layer and is used as a drier and to reinforce the first layer of the cement tile.
clé celebrates this historic cement tile with our own modern take on a 150 year old tile crafting legacy. each encaustic cement tile is painstakingly hand crafted, one tile at a time, to create solid or patterned tiles formed from pigmented cement. the tiles are not fired in a kiln, but are cured in water for a lasting cement surface that is as stunning in its finish as it is good for the environment.

Every design in the Traditional Collection can be customized. Pick a design and select the colors. With a 300 square foot minimum, it’s made and shipped directly to you. This collection is made up of a series of designs and color schemes that are sought by designers, architects, and homeowners around the world. Our cement tile is of an excellent quality and manufactured in Mexico.
We also regret using cement tiles. They look great on day 1, but even properly sealed they stain. We are very careful with our tiles, but inevitably something will happen. Once we accidentally dripped toilet bowl cleaner on the floor and they literally bleached the tile, even though it was cleaned immediately. Also, we have a floating toilet and there is a definite urine stain below the bowl for all the times guests "miss". This does not come out even with some good scrubbing. The recommended solution for stains is to sand and reseal the floor. I don't mind a "lived in" look, but I certainly don't like pee stains and drip marks from each time I accidentally spill something. And I am certainly not planning to sand and seal my bathroom floor every one or two years, per the manufacturers suggestions.

We are thrilled that the show used our Bouquet II pattern in an episode of this season’s show. The episode is titled “Arched Mediterranean Kitchen” (Season 11, Episode 2) and follows a couple as they get a complete kitchen renovation. Our handmade cement tile is used on the kitchen backsplash to create a unique centerpiece for the space. The Bouquet cement tile pattern blends in perfectly with the new kitchen’s Mediterranean theme.
Hand painted and hand poured tiles are very different from each other and are actually completely different types of tile. While ceramic tiles are hand painted with glazes and pigments, cement tiles are hand poured with the design set into the tile itself. This difference is what makes cement tiles so much more durable and long-lasting than ceramic tiles. But that’s not all cement tiles are good for. They offer many more benefits and can be used in a number of ways both in and outside your home or business. Learn more about the features and benefits of handmade cement tiles here.
Just eight months after opening its location on Almont Drive in West Hollywood, the high-end tile company LE MOSAISTE decides to take advantage of a vacancy on nearby Robertson Boulevard to move its showroom. The term encaustic means “to heat or burn in” from an ancient Greek word. Encaustic materials are produced through a process which involves heating to seal in the dyes and clays. Traditional encaustic tiles are made using clay and powdered glazes, and are fired in a coal or wood-fired kiln. The firing process heats the clay and powdered colors to seal in the design and create a hard surface. These types of tiles are technically called ceramic tiles, but many sources and even tile manufacturers have interchangeably referred to them as both ceramic and cement tiles.
If you’re in the process of designing or remodeling a bathroom, you’ll love to know that cement tiles are not only a stylish option but a practical one for your space. With the ability to withstand moisture and constant use, cement bathroom tiles are great options for both the floors and walls in a bathroom. In this post, learn all the many benefits of choosing cement tiles for bathroom floors and walls, including the shower, the many ways to use them creatively, and our favorite designs that are both classic and trendy. Even if you changed only the tile in your bathroom, you’ll end up with a completely different space!

Cement tiles have been revered for their unmatched durability, crack and chip-resistance, waterproof finish, and incredible amount of designs and possibilities available for years. Hard wood floors continue to be a popular choice among home and business owners for their perceived value and aesthetic. However, hard woods are limited in use, and while they look gorgeous at first, they can quickly become scratched, faded, and warped due to water damage. Ceramic tiles are a lovely alternative to hard woods but history has shown us that they aren’t the most durable option either. The cement tiles at Granada Tile are hand-poured and set by an immense amount of pressure to create a nearly impenetrable product. They come in so many more looks than hard woods, and eliminate virtually all of the associated concerns of wood floors and ceramic tile.
