If you’re looking for an easy and cost-effective way to update or refresh one of the rooms in your home, backsplash tile is a great option. Backsplash tiles offer the perfect pop of color, texture and pattern while adding to the functionality of the kitchen, by protecting the walls from splashes and stains. It’s a small enough area that it won’t overwhelm the space, but it makes a big impact on the entire kitchen.
You can find concrete tile patterns that fit any room size. You're not limited to standard-sized squares. Although you can certainly recreate the look of tiles with repeating squares, concrete allows more versatility for including cutouts and embeds, imprinted patterns, three-dimensional sculptural designs, and more. Check out these images of concrete tile patterns or view the entire concrete tile photo gallery:
This series of solid-colored encaustic tiles was created so that there’s always something to perfectly coordinate with any patterned encaustic. Use encaustic light-grey cement tiles alone to make a monochromatic statement or mix and match with other solids and patterns to design a unique room. Even the solid colors of these wall and floor tiles will have natural variation and interest because they are hand mixed before being poured.
Backsplash tiles are usually small to medium sized tiles and can be ceramic, porcelain or cement. They are meant to provide a water-resistant and durable barrier between the wall of the kitchen and all of the messes from cooking. Backsplash tiles help to prevent staining and water damage on the wall, and provide a stylistic touch with the nearly unlimited amount of colors, sizes, shapes, and patterns to choose from.

I’d love to see a roundup of consoles that are less than a foot deep, and bonus points if you include some that have storage and aren’t just gorgeous expensive art-furniture that I can’t cram wet gloves into.

but what if I want to use a contrasting or dark grout? using a contrasting or dark grout isn’t impossible, however, it will require GREAT CARE. your installer will need to be extra careful with applying his grout release. next, a test patch should first be attempted to insure that the grout release and the contractor’s application is working. if not, he may need to either finger grout- using his finger to fill the joints, or use a grout bag to assist filling the joints. either procedure will insure that the dark grout stays off the tile surface. but they obviously take a great deal of skill and care.

Hardwoods are beautiful and go with all different styles of homes, but are high maintenance and need to be refinished every handful of years. Cement floor tiles don’t ever need to be refinished, and they don’t show scratches, scuffing, and fading like hardwoods. Cement tiles are great for every room in your home, including high-traffic areas, and are practical and cost-efficient for a busy commercial space.
While kitchen backsplash materials typically consist of glass, wood, metals and stone, cement tile backsplashes have become popular due to several benefits. They are environmentally friendly in that they are comprised of natural components, and since they are not fired, no fossil fuels have been burned in their production. They have also been created with natural pigments. They are customizable since each tile has been hand crafted. If you do not see a color combination, shape or size you like in stock, the manufacturer can simply create one to fit your needs. The tile backsplash creates a protective shield over the wall in your kitchen which helps prevent damage from spills and splatters. Tile is so much easier to clean and keep clean. Tiles come in a handy size for relatively simple installation.
i love these ideas and appreciate the impressive amount of work that went into researching all of it. ironically, i am right now (as in…NOW, today) removing heavily patterned tile from the bathrooms in my 1970’s “spanish” (subdivision…ranch) house. the tiles have held up beautifully for 42 years, but yowza. living with the patterns on floors and walls day after day can be crazy-making over time. plus, the colorways are self-limiting — the tile demands center stage. i will replace the patterned tiles with plain cement tiles and go crazy with towels.
If an item states "ships within 5-10 business days" it means the item is in stock and ready to ship. 10 business days is the maximum processing time for our warehouse to place the order on a truck to ship out. Once the order is on a truck, transit time ranges from 1-5 business days to transport from our California warehouse to various locations across the country. You can expect to receive in stock items within 1-3 weeks of the order being placed.
Entry: Yes. You can put cement tiles in your entry but it certainly sets the vibe for the whole house. If you have again a Mediterranean or a Spanish style house then go for it, but if you have an English Tudor, then be careful what pattern you go for and choose one that has a more delicate, traditional feeling. Also anything too light or simple will get worn easier so go for darker/busier so that the wear and tear doesn’t stand out so much.

Anyway…back to the tiles.  Garrett really wanted to inset the backsplash into the wall so the edges of the tile would be concealed by the surrounding drywall.  I wasn’t really concerned about seeing the tile edges, but I let him go after it anyway ‘cause marriage is all about compromise.  And I like to compromise on the small stuff ;).  So Garrett put up 1/4″ hardiboard behind the backsplash and 5/8″ drwyall around it.  He pushed out the drywall immediately on either side of the hardiboard with 1/8″ furring strips so I had a solid 3/4″ of depth to work with for laying the mortar and tile.
Making the cuts and setting each row took such a long time that I kept having to add more water to the mortar. Even though I had the bucket covered with a wet towel, it dried out quickly. The whole process came to a screeching halt every time I needed to attend to the mortar. I was really wishing for a tiling partner after a few hours into this project. Future tile jobs will be two-person jobs around here.
If you’re looking for a bold-floor look that is sure to be the focus of any room, encaustic tile is a perfect choice. These artistic tiles are made by dying cement tiles with two or more colors using mineral pigments and a mold, creating a beautiful and colorful design. Encaustic tile has a rich history, having been around since medieval times and reaching their height in the 1700–1800s when the tiles were able to be mass produced and became available to the general public. England, which was the historic center of production, still has the greatest amount of encaustic tile floors. When placed together on a floor, encaustic tiles create a repeating pattern that pairs perfectly with neutral wall colors. This look blends old-world style with modern colors and patterns into one unique and timeless tile.
the polishing is completed with a light penetrating sealer that allows the tiles to ship without the abrasion issues that are prevalent when shipping pigmented tiles. this sealant also assists through the first stages of installation (setting and pre-grouting). we keep the sealant light so that it doesn't act as a bond barrier for the setting material. this is why we require additional sealant prior to grouting (to help prevent grout staining).

Items that state "ships within 10-12 weeks" are made to order, with the 10-12 weeks being the production time. We are not able to expedite the production time as each tile is produced by hand one at a time and then requires time to fully cure so they do not break while in transit. After this 10- 12 week period the order will ship from our warehouse and transit time should be 1-7 business days.

Make your kitchen look like one of those on Pinterest with cement tiles in a large pattern. The large, bold design will give your kitchen an instant upgrade that is fresh and totally unique. You don’t need to do a total remodel, or even change the cabinets, to make a huge impact. A few trending concrete tile kitchen floor designs are black and white geometric patterns, blue and white patterns, and a mix of creamy neutrals.

Since it is just not cement, a concrete tile offers various features like durability, easier cleaning and maintenance. With regular cleaning, it is fairly easy to maintain the durability. It is recommended to use clean water and microfiber mop each time. You can mix water with neutral cleansers to avoid abrasion of the tile. For long-term maintenance, it is better to invest in resealing of the tiles when it is required.

The term encaustic means “to heat or burn in” from an ancient Greek word. Encaustic materials are produced through a process which involves heating to seal in the dyes and clays. Traditional encaustic tiles are made using clay and powdered glazes, and are fired in a coal or wood-fired kiln. The firing process heats the clay and powdered colors to seal in the design and create a hard surface. These types of tiles are technically called ceramic tiles, but many sources and even tile manufacturers have interchangeably referred to them as both ceramic and cement tiles.
The Ciment cement floor and wall tile in blue and white sky offers a monochrome blue old-world design set on a white background. These tiles are set on a 1” cement base where color is poured over it into a mold, pressed in a hydraulic press and baked at extremely high temperatures. These handmade tiles offer natural variations and chips, which are reflections of traditional cement tile. Best for interior floors and walls, these and all cement tiles require sealing. First of all, if your tiles are light colored, use a white colored setting material. Similarly, use a darker setter for darker tiles. Install the tiles by following the instructions. Use a wet saw if you need to cut the tiles. Once the tiles are set, clean them with a mop or cloth after 48 hours to get rid of any excessive grout. Make sure you seal your tiles in place with a sealer. In case of cracks, use a concrete patch material that you can find in the stores easily. Fill in the cracks and then, seal them in place.
Similar to the previous place, it’s a gallery style set up with a vast Arabesque mosaic pattern as the focal point. The reddish-brown earth tone chosen for the walls is the perfect backdrop for the firm’s handcrafted ceramic tile products, and it’s not unlike some of the colors you can find in the Medina of Marrakech. The sea grass flooring, the water feature surrounded by moss, the succulents featured in the soffit niches, the custom made brass lanterns, and the eclectic world music all provide for an almost spa-like experience.
