If you've seen some drop dead gorgeous patterned tiles on Pinterest lately, there's a good chance they are made of cement. These matte-finish, often bold patterned tiles are absolutely beautiful. Historically more common throughout Europe than here, they've gathered major steam on this side of the pond. After days and weeks of scouring the internet looking for the perfect tile for our bathroom renovation, and not finding anything that was just right, late one night I finally found The One in a photo of a dreamy bathroom.
Outdoors: This is where we are used to seeing cement tiles because it really does wear so nicely over the years. It can get expensive if you are doing a large area or don’t already have a hard surface (concrete) to lay the tiles on, but if you have a small courtyard or a little patio off your bedroom or living room (we can all dream) then cement tile can be just the ticket to create that little bit of visual wow.
I had searched around but found no one with authentic Moroccan tiles (some are from China, so don't be fooled). Then I found Zellij Gallery I decided to see if they had genuine Moroccan tiles & they did! I was super exciting. The moment I entered I felt welcomed. They had a great selection, beautiful designs, great colors to choose from. I decided to go with intricate Fassi design tiles, which represented the true Moroccan beauty as well as it would brighten up my kitchen. For the flooring, the Sala sheets composed of 2x2 inch Moroccan tiles in the color bone looked remarkable. Once my order was delivered. Faissel went a step further and came to assist the installers by making sure the tiles were done properly. He was extremely helpful! The end result was incredible. I'm happy with my design choices and recommend Zellij Gallery to all wanting to add unique, historic, and modern design into their homes. Thank you!! I can't recommend Zellij Gallery highly enough!
"We create tiles in collaboration with individual artists and with artisans from around the world. We are perpetually on the lookout for new finishes and it often takes at least a good year (or more) to bring a line to market . We were the first to really promote the Moroccan tile, zellige in the US. It took a while for people to embrace the imperfections but now it is one of the hottest items we sell."
so this friday, on the perch of the future, clé is committing to the bigger question with our promise of smaller ongoing actions that we trust when woven together will make for bigger results. today, we commit to trying our best to support the greater whole. we commit to not turning away from the harder questions. we commit to sharing ourselves and our resources with those in need. we commit to using our talents to better the world around us. we commit to being better people. we commit to acting out of love and not hate.
We do not recommend installing cement tile outdoors in places that experience extreme frost and freeze in winter. Cement tiles are also unable to withstand the weight of vehicles and therefore should never be used in driveways. Wall tiles can be affixed to plaster, drywall, cement block, and cement backer board. The installation surface should be flat and dry with any loose paint removed and cracked surfaces patched prior to installing cement tiles.
