These handmade tiles offer natural variations and chips, which are reflections of traditional cement tile. Best for interior floors and walls, these and all cement tiles require sealing. Please refer to the sealing...
but, let’s face it- how we are dressed represents our first calling card. so naturally, it’s good to make the right impression- yes? and following in a close second for personal design acuity is our growing home fashion sense. again, thanks to the internet we seem to be finely tuning our skills with regard to fitting our nests with the latest and greatest. our access to more home design inspiration (blogs, tv, the web) has become one of our favorite past-times, turning our eye toward a universe of possibilities we probably would have never experienced, otherwise.
Many believe that concrete tiles are simply made of cement. However, they are a mixture of multiple ingredients. While the main binding agent is cement, it also includes sand and rocks or crushed stone of different kinds. Different kinds of concrete tiles use different amounts of cement proportion. A right percentage of Portland cement comprises from 10 to 15 percent alkalis, sulfates, and chlorides are what make up the best concrete tiles. Through a process called hydration, a hardening process of cement and water to make concrete gets stronger and continues for years. The strong concrete tiles look like plastic when they are freshly made. However, once they set, they are the hardest and strongest material you’ll ever find.
On the practical side of kitchen décor, nothing beats cement tile for a backsplash. Our tiles are handmade by craftsmen to ensure nothing less than top quality and durability. Cement tile is easy to clean and naturally water-resistant, making it the perfect way to shield your wall from unsightly food stains. Additionally, cement tile can easily last for decades, so there’s no concern of fading or discoloration.
The main difference between concrete and ceramic tiles is, unlike ceramic tiles, the design of cement tiles isn’t painted on top of the tile, but is a solid part of the tile itself. Ceramic tiles are made with color pigments on the surface and topped with a glaze. The fact that the design is applied to the top of the tile is what causes ceramic tiles to scratch and fade. The manufacturing process of concrete tiles is what gives them their strength and resistance to the typical wear and tear you see on ceramic tiles.
Our Moroccan Cement Tile is a type of tile which is made from cement, these tiles are very durable and sturdy, being especially well-suited to high traffic areas, and they come in a range of patterns and colors. Just eight months after opening its location on Almont Drive in West Hollywood, the high-end tile company LE MOSAISTE decides to take advantage of a vacancy on nearby Robertson Boulevard to move its showroom. The purpose of the move is clear: added visibility and closer proximity to the Pacific Design Center. “We think the new space will allow us to serve the local design community more effectively”, says co-founder Faissel Farhi.
Thanks, Julia. I think it feels traditional too. Right now, I think I will just leave the backsplash painted rather than add anything else. I may change my mind down the road. The area behind the sink is actually too narrow for any sort of backsplash at all. There is a window right there, and the apron goes down within an inch or two of the countertop.

Cement tiles have been revered for their unmatched durability, crack and chip-resistance, waterproof finish, and incredible amount of designs and possibilities available for years. Hard wood floors continue to be a popular choice among home and business owners for their perceived value and aesthetic. However, hard woods are limited in use, and while they look gorgeous at first, they can quickly become scratched, faded, and warped due to water damage. Ceramic tiles are a lovely alternative to hard woods but history has shown us that they aren’t the most durable option either. The cement tiles at Granada Tile are hand-poured and set by an immense amount of pressure to create a nearly impenetrable product. They come in so many more looks than hard woods, and eliminate virtually all of the associated concerns of wood floors and ceramic tile.
Adhesive, tile spacers, notched trowel, bucket, tape measure, grout and grout sponge. Tip: Pick a grout color that complements your tile, avoid an exact color match. Select one that will be easy to keep clean and try to stay away from bright white, unless you love scrubbing. Seal the cement tiles with a penetrating sealer like HydraGuard first. Install it. Then seal the grout. The sealer protects from grout staining. Premixed grout with sealer is not the best, so use with sanded grout and then seal it. It’s a far better process and better protection.
