Side note: Using a blade attachment on your power drill makes the job of mixing mortar easy, but be careful. The first few times I tried to mix the mortar, the blade was so powerful that it spun the bucket and slammed it into my shins. In order to keep this from happening again, I wedged the bucket between the front steps and my sneakers. Even then, it took a lot of muscle to hold it in place.

I used them in this kitchen, above, that was installed in a 1920’s Spanish style renovation. It is still one of my favorites. Note: the floor tiles weren’t properly sealed the first time (if at all, I don’t remember and it wasn’t my contractor) so they got really dirty really fast. I had to have them professionally scrubbed and then resealed but they definitely still had a lot of wear from those couple days of no-sealant days. It actually looks great because its an old house but if you had a new house you might not be so into it.
Jordan Design-Build Group is a full-service residential design-build firm serving the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area. For a recent remodel project a client wanted to go big and bold in the kitchen whilst maintaining an eclectic style. Using our Patchwork Random selection of colorful cement tiles, they created a ceiling-high backsplash that acts as the focal point of the room. The kitchen remodel is creeping along. We have discovered that even hiring out most of the project to the Lowe’s remodeling team does not mean that we can escape the fact that the last 10% of all remodeling projects seems to take 90% of the time. At this stage of the kitchen renovation, it is a joint venture of paid projects and DIY.  We are playing a game of project ping-pong with Lowe’s.  I serve the ball to them, and they complete their tasks. They lob it back over the net to us, and it is our turn to work. With this pattern firmly established,  we all stay on task. Last week, when the ball was back on our side of the table, I completed the cement tile backsplash
in 2009 when artist and designer, deborah osburn began her blog, ‘tile envy’, she did so because no one else was talking about tile at the time. ‘tile envy’ quickly garnered an avid following and when readers started to ask how to source the unique artisan tiles she was featuring, deborah found herself launching an online tile shop in 2012 aptly named clé (pronounced 'clay') tile. selling tiles solely online seemed audacious at a time when tile stores were still deeply rooted in the showroom experience, however, architects, designers and design-savvy customers proved they were happy to have access to a wider array of decorative tiles and the online boutique took off.
not typically a fan of shades of green, we decided to begin to collect emerald-colored images onto a pinboard to see if they continued to capture our curiosity. we can’t believe it’s already managed to become one of our favorite pinboards. inspired by these beautiful images we have added green colorways to many of our cement patterns and even our watermark! who knew shades of green would capture us and our clients curiosity in such a big way?

The Ciment cement floor and wall tile in blue and white sky offers a monochrome blue old-world design set on a white background. These tiles are set on a 1” cement base where color is poured over it into a mold, pressed in a hydraulic press and baked at extremely high temperatures. These handmade tiles offer natural variations and chips, which are reflections of traditional cement tile. Best for interior floors and walls, these and all cement tiles require sealing. Please refer to the sealing...

If you’re looking for an easy and cost-effective way to update or refresh one of the rooms in your home, backsplash tile is a great option. Backsplash tiles offer the perfect pop of color, texture and pattern while adding to the functionality of the kitchen, by protecting the walls from splashes and stains. It’s a small enough area that it won’t overwhelm the space, but it makes a big impact on the entire kitchen.
