what colors are suitable for grouting cement tiles? clé always recommends a neutral natural grey (un-pigmented) grout color for all cement tiles. besides being the traditional shade for these historic tiles, the lack of pigment allows for a stain-free installation. another color recommendation is to select the shade that matches closest to the lightest shade in your pattern. CAUTION: many grout manufacturers have begun to pigment their “natural gray” grouts. so be sure your contractor checks with the manufacturer. If there is pigment, your contractor must take care against staining.

Yes! This is awesome…I had such a hard time finding good cement tiles when I was looking last year! I ended up going with some black and white patterned tiles from Overstock for our fireplace and a small backsplash behind our range. I liked the tiles I picked, but honestly it was the free shipping that sold me – when I priced tiles from other suppliers, the shipping was more than the actual tiles.

On the practical side of kitchen décor, nothing beats cement tile for a backsplash. Our tiles are handmade by craftsmen to ensure nothing less than top quality and durability. Cement tile is easy to clean and naturally water-resistant, making it the perfect way to shield your wall from unsightly food stains. Additionally, cement tile can easily last for decades, so there’s no concern of fading or discoloration.
If you’re looking for an easy and cost-effective way to update or refresh one of the rooms in your home, backsplash tile is a great option. Backsplash tiles offer the perfect pop of color, texture and pattern while adding to the functionality of the kitchen, by protecting the walls from splashes and stains. It’s a small enough area that it won’t overwhelm the space, but it makes a big impact on the entire kitchen.
If you’re in the process of building or renovating a home or commercial space, choosing flooring material is on your list of to-dos. While hardwood floors are beautiful and classic, don’t dismiss tile floors. Today’s tile isn’t your grandmother’s tile flooring, and it can transform your space from one that looks like everyone else’s into a space that’s completely unique and speaks to your personality. It’s even more important in a commercial space to stand out from the crowd and develop a signature style. Cement tile floors can do all that, while delivering a durable and practical flooring option. Learn why cement tiles make great floors in this post!
I used them in this kitchen, above, that was installed in a 1920’s Spanish style renovation. It is still one of my favorites. Note: the floor tiles weren’t properly sealed the first time (if at all, I don’t remember and it wasn’t my contractor) so they got really dirty really fast. I had to have them professionally scrubbed and then resealed but they definitely still had a lot of wear from those couple days of no-sealant days. It actually looks great because its an old house but if you had a new house you might not be so into it.
**So glad** you mentioned Villa Lagoon! Lundy (the most gorgeous, both in body and heart), the owner, helped me with our laundry room (now changing room) project eight years ago. I wanted a colorful crazy quilt and Lundy definitely ensured I got what I wanted, including a good mix of black to help ground the pattern(s). I did investigate Popham but back then they were still only in Morocco, not yet in the US with Ann Sacks, and, while lovely, they were (are?) a bit more mod than I wanted (although I do like their Rings) and MUCH more $$$ than Villa Lagoon.

The kitchen remodel is creeping along. We have discovered that even hiring out most of the project to the Lowe’s remodeling team does not mean that we can escape the fact that the last 10% of all remodeling projects seems to take 90% of the time. At this stage of the kitchen renovation, it is a joint venture of paid projects and DIY.  We are playing a game of project ping-pong with Lowe’s.  I serve the ball to them, and they complete their tasks. They lob it back over the net to us, and it is our turn to work. With this pattern firmly established,  we all stay on task. Last week, when the ball was back on our side of the table, I completed the cement tile backsplash

Concrete floor tiles get their unmatched durability from their age-old recipe of marble powder, cement, sand, and color pigment that is poured into molds for shaping and then compressed under 2,000 pounds of pressure. They typically aren’t machine manufactured on a large scale, but are each made by hand, by a talented artisan with generational ties to the trade.

No, cement tiles are not truly encaustic, but it is an acceptable label for cement tiles, also known as inlaid tiles. When cement tiles were first introduced during the mid-1800s, the Victorians thought they looked just like encaustic tiles which have been around for centuries, and mistakenly started referring to them as encaustic tiles also. Since then, the term has been widely used interchangeably to describe these two tile art forms.

On the recommendation of the flooring guy at Lowe’s, I bought this sealer. He and I actually had a bit of a difference of opinion. He thought the cement tile was already sealed. I felt pretty certain that it was not. I am glad that I went with my gut because the cement tile backsplash sucked up the sealer like nobody’s business. It took four layers before the tile stopped soaking up the sealer like a desert reptile soaks up rain. (Novice tip: If you have unsealed tile, sealing it prior to grouting is important. The pigment in colored grout can stain unsealed tile.)
It is not necessary to install Concrete Backsplash Tile or Cement Backsplash Tile matching with concrete countertops but it is usually done this way to add more consistency to the kitchen design. When backsplashes are made of concrete tiles, there is more freedom for matching colors, patterns and shapes. Cement kitchen tiles offer more durability, strength and beauty than any other tile or wood type.

We do not recommend installing cement tile outdoors in places that experience extreme frost and freeze in winter. Cement tiles are also unable to withstand the weight of vehicles and therefore should never be used in driveways. Wall tiles can be affixed to plaster, drywall, cement block, and cement backer board. The installation surface should be flat and dry with any loose paint removed and cracked surfaces patched prior to installing cement tiles.
