PALO ALTO – Authorities are investigating the attempted carjacking of a woman and two young children in Palo Alto.
The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday outside the Stanford Arboretum Children’s Center at 215 Quarry Road, the Palo Alto Police Department said in a news release.
Police said an investigation revealed that a caregiver, described as a woman in her 50s, was picking up two children when a man jumped in front of her car. He then approached the driver’s side window and ordered her to give him the car with the children in it.
The caregiver was frightened and drove away, police said. She returned the children to their home and told their mother about the incident. The mother in turn called police.
The suspect was described as a 25- to 30-year-old Black man with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, black pants and shoes the victim described as “old.”
No similar crimes have been reported in the city recently, police said.
