Global National: Dec. 5, 2021 | New US COVID-19 travel rules cause concern for Canada’s border towns

In less than 24 hours the U.S. will impose new COVID-19 travel requirements on international travellers flying into the country, and there’s no exception for Canadians. There are no changes to the requirements to cross the border by land, but as Sean O’Shea reports, border towns say the uncertainty is hurting business.

Incoming Canadian citizens and permanent residents are also facing complications upon their return at land border crossings due to issues stemming from the ArriveCAN app. But as Brittany Rosen reports, it’s not only impacting leisure travellers, but essential workers as well.

Floodwaters have receded in Abbotsford, B.C., but the true extent of the damage is becoming clear. Many people have lost nearly everything and as Mike Drolet explains, that includes possessions that have been in families for generations.

And, rescuers continue to search for survivors a day after the highest volcano on Java island in Indonesia erupted with fury, killing at least 14 people. Mike Armstrong has details.

Advocates are calling for better support to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic’s impacts on mental health after a study found older Canadians are more likely to experience symptoms of depression. As Ross Lord explains, not enough people have access to the mental health care they need.

Plus, this week marks 80 years since Japan attacked Pearl Harbour, but that attack also led to increased security concerns along Canada’s West Coast. Jay Durant looks into the forgotten history of an island off B.C. that was fortified to protect the Pacific.

  1. TO THOSE FEDRAL NEWSCASTERS ["GLOBAL NATIONAL"], MANY THANKS TO THOSE "INTERSTATE, CANADIAN OFFICIALS' UTMOST, MEDICAL TRAVEL CONCERN," AND TO Y'ALL, 'LATEST REPORT VIEWERS, MAY YOUR GRAND CREATOR HELP ALL'!

  2. We are 80% vaccinated with the cure. Why are we so worried about moronic strains. Even our kids are vaxxed now.
    I don't understand 😕
This may not be about covid!

  3. Make up your mind Global…do you want covid restrictions to protect citizens or do you want to have a widespread increase in infections that will result in another lockdown. I think you want another lockdown scumbag media.!

  4. Quit using pandemic as an excuse. Viruses don’t come from china and South Africa by land borders. The incompetence of our morons to stop air traffic from those countries should have happened back in 2019.

  5. It seems to me the more rules and regulations our brain trust "authorities" come up with, the more admissions to hospital we get.
It is unbelievable how complicated… and EXPENSIVE… the rule makers can make things when THREE SIMPLE RULES will take care of the problem.
    (1) EVERYONE WEAR A MASK
    (2) EVERYONE STAY AT LEAST 6 FEET AWAY FROM EVERYONE ELSE
    (3) EVERYONE wash your hands especially after touching something the public has touched
Of course, you can't stay away from everyone and fly all over the planet. People are choosing to fly. People are choosing to die. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

  6. Blame the vaxxers who caused this mess. Thanks to you guys were going to live in darker times with food shortages and so on… everyone applaud the vaxxers! Well done!

  7. Just fill out the app. My family visiting from Europe figured it out with 0 English skills in the mid 70. I am sorry but it was know since August now it dec. I used it already for a day trip and it takes less than 5 min maybe if you are 65+ but just ask for help.

  8. According to reports, town halls in hundreds of counties across the heartland are brimming with furious farmers who are being told that nothing can be done to stop the pipeline.

“It’s becoming obvious that ‘they’ are intentionally trying to damage food production and supply in the U.S., all in the name of reducing CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions,” reported Rumor Mill News….

  9. I know walking and seeing other people just doing every day things helped my depression as well as a supplement that keeps me calm. In fact I sleep much better now and my nurse practitioner said it’s fine to take. I feel better overall amidst all the bad news day in and day out I hear. Get help because being depressed is no fun.
