How to Mute Yourself or Someone Else on Clubhouse

Clubhouse is all about speaking your mind. But you might not always want people to hear you — especially if you’re on a loud highway, or in a room filled with other people. This is why it’s easy to mute yourself on Clubhouse, and easy to mute people that are speaking in your chatroom.

Here’s how to do both using the iPhone or Android app.

How to mute yourself on Clubhouse

Muting yourself on Clubhouse just takes a tap.

While you’re a “Speaker” in a Clubhouse room, a small microphone icon will appear in the bottom-right corner of your screen. While it has a red line through it, you’re muted. If it doesn’t have that line, your microphone is on.

To mute or unmute, just tap that microphone icon. There’s no limit to how often you can switch off your microphone.

The person you muted will get a quick message on their screen explaining why their microphone turned off. Just note that they can unmute themselves whenever they want — if you want to mute them permanently, you’ll need to either move them to the audience or kick them out.
