METAL SCULPTURES at Venice Beach L.A. | World Travel Vlog

Venice Beach is an incredible laid back neighborhood in LA. It is filled with art, musicians, skaters and surfers.

Venice beach was founded as a resort town in 1905 and was called The Venice of America. The hole area was dug out with a lot of canals and the beach had several entertaining piers with rides and arcades. Every weekend they would have 50.000 – 150.000 people come visit the canals and piers, a true turist mekka.

In the early 1920s Venice Beach was annexed by L.A.
The canals were very expensive to maintain and in1929 they started filling in the canals and paving them over and the piers went out of use.

This put a stop to the glorie times of Venice Beach and though the next decade crime rates rose, and the neighborhood was nick named “the slum by the sea”.

In the 1960s the hippies moved in and gave the hole area the feel that it has today. It is a very unik place to visit and it’s a fun mix of laid back hippies, serious artist, street cool skaters and very fit runners on the “board walk” and surfers on the beach.
