Raging Waters adds Bombs Away thrill slides put on hold by pandemic – Daily Breeze

Raging Waters will add a pair of extreme thrill slides in summer 2022 with drop-floor enclosed launch capsules that got put on hold by the coronavirus pandemic closure of the San Dimas water park.

The dual-drop Bombs Away tandem slide tower will open at Raging Waters Los Angeles on May 21 — one of the earliest opening days in park history.

Both Bombs Away slides will begin with sliders stepping into enclosed capsules with drop floors beneath their feet that will abruptly vanish without notice. From there, sliders will encounter one of two experiences.

The 70-degree AquaDrop will send sliders racing straight down a six-story drop at speeds of 20 mph.

The second as-yet-unnamed slide will propel sliders through a 325-foot-long closed-tube loop at similar speeds.

Both Bombs Away slides will have a 48-inch minimum height requirement.

The launch of the Bombs Away slide tower was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic that forced the cancellation of Raging Waters’ summer 2020 season.

“We know our guests have been waiting to blast off in Bombs Away since it was first announced in 2019,” Raging Waters General Manager Roland Reyes said in a statement. “These drops are over the top and we are so excited for sliders to step in and see the Bombs Away experience was worth the wait.”

Raging Waters returned for the summer 2021 season, but opted to delay the launch of Bombs Away until the summer 2022 season.

The 60-acre Raging Waters featuring more than 50 slides, rides and attractions is billed as California’s largest water park. The park’s lineup includes the Aqua Rocket hydromagnetic-powered water coaster, Neptune’s Fury four-person raft slide through total darkness and million-gallon Wave Cove wave pool.

A new open-air shop selling sunscreen, swim trunks and other water park gear will also open next summer at Raging Waters’ main gate.

Raging Waters season passes for summer 2022 are on sale now starting at $70 with the top-tier Platinum pass including access to the Castle Park amusement park in Riverside.
