From its founding, California has been a destination for dreamers and those with the courage and determination to make those dreams come true.

Tragically, under the leadership of Gov. Gavin Newsom, California has become a nightmare for many, and the disaffected are voting with their feet — leaving for better opportunities in pro-business states like Texas and Florida. California is now failing on every leading indicator for the health of a state.

According to the U.S. News rankings for the 50 states, California currently ranks 50th in regard to opportunities for its citizens to achieve upward mobility, 40th in quality of K-12 education and 36th in regard to ensuring the public safety of its citizens.

It is important to note that California is currently the fifth-largest economy in the world and has one of the largest pools of tax revenue. That means California does not have a resources problem, it has a government competency problem. It is time to call the situation what it is — an economic, public safety, health, and environmental disaster that has gone on far too long.

To restore the California Dream, we must address the most pressing issues that impact our daily lives and shape the future of our great state. If we do not change how we govern, we will no longer be the golden state. To restore California’s golden standard, we must first address the problems that have been ignored by Gov. Newsom and the Democratic super-majority in our state Legislature.

Public safety

The number one responsibility of the Governor is to ensure that the citizens of California are safe, so that they can engage in their day-to-day activities without fear of physical harm. Statewide, crime rates are skyrocketing, and our largest cities are now asking law-abiding citizens to not wear their expensive jewelry or drive expensive cars instead of holding criminals accountable. In short, the criminals are officially in charge. As governor, I will send the message that criminal activity will no longer be tolerated. I support the recall of district attorneys who refuse to prosecute those that violate our persons and property. We must stop releasing inmates into our communities without proper rehabilitation and equip our law enforcement officers to do their jobs in a professional and safe manner.

Education

In recent decades, our K-12 public education system has been taken over by special interests, resulting in an outdated and expensive public education system that is failing our children. Our children are not political pawns. We need an innovative education model that prepares our kids for a creative and dynamic future that will be characterized by constant and rapid advances in technology, rather than the model that was built a half century ago. It’s time to put our kids first and fund students, not systems. As governor, I will institute a Parental Bill of Rights that gives parents a clear expectation of what their children are learning and how it sets them up for success. All California students deserve a high-quality education that incorporates Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), no matter their ZIP code.
