Starship Technologies: Looking to 2021 | By Ahti Heinla | Starship Technologies

Grocery chains will increasingly rely on innovative delivery options as they seek to meet customer demand safely and efficiently. In September, we announced our first partnership with The Save Mart Company, a leading US grocery chain, to provide instant delivery of their customers’ favorite products at their doorstep.

Residents of Modesto, CA can now get their Save Mart grocery delivery through an autonomous robot

As students return to university, our robots are busy offering uncompressed, fast, and affordable delivery across campus. The number of autonomous deliveries is increasing, setting records week by week. In 2021 we have plans to expand to many new universities.

Moving on to this next chapter, Lex Bair is resigning after serving as CEO of Starship from June 2018 to October 2020. During his tenure, the number of complete deliveries by the company’s autonomous robots increased from 5,000 to over 500,000, more than 1. Travel millions of miles. We are proud of Starship’s growth and achievement during this time and are grateful for Lex’s contribution, and we wish him well in his future endeavors.

I will be acting as interim CEO while we look for the best person to lead the company in the future. Since co-founding Starship with Janus Friis in 2014, I am proud to have played a role in implementing our vision for almost four years as CEO and most recently as CTO.

By early 2021 we expect to have one million of our autonomous distributions. We’ve come a long way in our fleet of innovative and world-leading robots but – more importantly – a great team of people who have made our company what it is today. I can’t wait to share more news about our Starship Journey soon.
